If you're making cosmetic products for the UK market, it's important to correctly declare allergens in
fragrances and essential oils. Regulations require:
Rinse-off products (e.g., shampoos, soaps) to list allergens if they exceed 0.01%.
Leave-on products (e.g., lotions, creams) to list allergens if they exceed 0.001%.
This calculator makes it quick and easy to check which allergens need to be declared!
How to use:
Enter your fragrance or essential oil composition in the provided fields.
The calculator will flag allergens that exceed the regulatory limits.
Use the results to ensure your product labeling and advertising meet UK guidelines.
You can calculate the allergens for up to 5 essential or fragrance oils. Give your blend a name at the
top and specify whether the product is rinse-off or leave-on. Add up to 5 essential oils. Fill in their
name and the percentage of that oil that is present in your TOTAL finished product. Fill in the
percentages of the allergens present in each essential oil.
When you have filled everything in, click "Calculate Allergens". You will be given a list of allergens
that must be declared on your labels by law. You may also be given a list of optional allergens that
don't exceed the threshold. It is up to you whether you list these or not.
Saving
You can save your essential oils and your blends! When you save an essential oil, its name, batch number,
supplier, percentage in the product, and allergen levels are stored in your browser. Similarly, when you
save a blend, all the essential oils in that blend along with their percentages are saved together. Once
saved, you can easily load any essential oil or blend back into your current calculation by clicking the
"Load" button on the saved card. You can also remove saved items if you no longer need them.
